Culturally Responsible Investing

In support of indigenous people we are calling upon individuals, organizations, foundations, religious institutions, non-profits, the States of Virginia and Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the United States Government to divest in the following companies that support the NFL franchise in Washington DC. These companies refuse to take a stand against the derogatory use of the team’s name and instead choose profit over respect. We have provided a letter that can be downloaded and sent to your financial advisors to begin the process. It includes the following corporate sponsors and their stock market abbreviations.

Anheuser-Busch (BUD) - Samsung (SMSN.IL) - Merrill Lynch (MER-PK) - Sprint (S) - FedEx (FDX) - Bank of America (BAC) MasterCard (MA) - Canon (CAJ) - 7Eleven (SVNDY) - Diageo (DEO) - Adidas (ADDYY) - Pepsico (PEP)

Dear (advisor):

I am concerned about the Washington DC NFL football team and would like to do what I can in order to diminish the power that the organization has in slowing the progress of treating indigenous people with respect and dignity here in the United States. I agree with the previous campaigns to change the logo and name of the team and the effort by those who have denounced this football team as overvalued and unrepresentative of the people in our region.

As the owner of the team has previously stated, he is unwilling to change the name and therefore I believe the next best course of action is to no longer support any company that has committed to being a corporate sponsor. The following companies have been identified for divestment:

Anheuser-Busch (BUD)

Samsung (SMSN.IL)

Merrill Lynch (MER-PK)

Sprint (S)

FedEx (FDX)

Bank of America (BAC)

MasterCard (MA)

Canon (CAJ)

7Eleven (SVNDY)

Diageo (DEO)

Adidas (ADDYY)

Pepsico (PEP)

I want to divest from these direct holdings and any other assets invested in this football team.

Would you be so kind as to cross-reference this list with my portfolio and report the amount of my holdings represented on this list? After we have identified my investment position in regards to these corporate sponsors, I would like to discuss reinvestment options. I am interested in investment choices that reflect my values on this issue.

Please contact me so we can discuss what will be involved in repositioning my portfolio, how it can be done consistent with my investment objectives, and how it may impact my investment costs.

Kind Regards,

(Your name)
